7 Ways To Prep for a Portrait Session
Hiring a photographer is a big decision, but we believe it’s a good decision, too. Memories of family time fade quickly in our minds. Photographs allow us to relive the everyday moments at any time.
Here at Meet the Bryants Photography, we take pride in capturing you in a candid/casual and editorial way. That said, we often get lots of questions from clients asking “how exactly do we do a lifestyle shoot?” or “what should I do to prepare?”
Here are 7 Top Tips to Prep For A Lifestyle Session with us, The Bryants:
1. Get to Know Us!
Spend some time scrolling our feeds (social media links), visiting our portfolio on the website, or scheduling a call with us to chit-chat and brainstorm some ideas (though if you keep reading, we’ll detail that out here in a sec ;) )
2. Location, Location, Location
Think about the location you would like as the backdrop for your family time. Are y’all outdoorsy people? Prefer to stay home and play? What “everyday moment” memories do you want to capture? Let us know, and we’ll help plan the place. For suggestions, Click HERE to read a guide we wrote about the top 10 location in San Antonio.
3. Relax...
Before we go any further, take step three to breathe and relax. Our goal is to highlight the day-to-day of real, genuine families. If you’re getting overwhelmed at the premise of making something look exactly right, don’t! We want to jump into your lives and capture those precious candid moments that naturally occur between you and your loved ones.
4. What to Wear?
If outside, what would y’all wear on your hikes or bikes? What’s the weather forecast? If you’re hanging at home and in the kitchen, would you wear your Sunday best with an apron for cookie baking? Do you want to lounge in PJs? Whatever you decide, we’re flexible! Just ask yourself, what would Jesus do lol jk? We just want you to be comfortable.
5. Timing & Lighting
In-home sessions are a great way to capture you and/or your family in their element. With that being said, we are mindful of your schedule as well as which way the light enters different rooms in your home. We can use windows as a resource for natural lighting. For outdoor pictures, we recommend shooting during sunset as the lighting is friendlier. Pick a time that works for you and/or your tribe. If your family is most cooperative in the morning, that works for us! Please do not stress or worry - just communicate your ideas and we’ll make the appropriate suggestions!
6. Did We Mention You Should Relax? ;)
Again. We promise that'll be the easiest photo experience you’ve ever had.
7. ENJOY!
Once we arrive, we spend time getting to know you and/or your family. We help the kids get comfortable with the big cameras hanging around our necks, and within a short time, everyone is relaxed, smiling, dancing, cooking, running, playing - whatever! We snap, you savor.
Hopefully, these 7 tips help answer any questions you might have about our lifestyle shoot methods and alleviate any “fear” of trying something new! Our clients tend to start a little nervous and always end up saying “that was SO fun.” And when they see the final product: “oh my gosh, I LOVE these!” We know you’ll say so, too.
We look forward to working with you!
